United Hospital Family Practice Physician Wins Prestigious National Academic Award

ST. PAUL, Minn. 09/09/2005--United Hospital announced today that Kathleen Macken, MD, of St. Paul, Minn., has received the 2005 American Academy of Family Physicians National Exemplary Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Macken will be presented with her award at the Congress of Delegates at the AAFP Scientific Assembly meeting in San Francisco on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005.

Dr Macken is being honored for her exemplary teaching skills, as well as for being an individual who has implemented outstanding educational programs and developed innovative teaching models. Her nomination was submitted by the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians Constituent Chapter following Dr. Macken’s 2004 Minnesota Teacher of the Year Award, and was reviewed and voted on by the entire AAFM Commission on Education and members from the Committee of Chapter Affairs.

Macken is a board-certified family physician with the United Family Practice and is the director of the United Family Medicine Residency Program. Macken graduated from Mayo Medical School in 1977. She completed her residency at St. Paul Ramsey Medical Center in 1980.

“We are thrilled for Dr. Macken,” said Dan Foley, MD, vice president, Medical Affairs, United Hospital. “Most colleagues agree she deserves this award because of the integrity she possesses and the level of excellence she brings to each and every one of her roles.”
