Allina Hospitals & Clinics creates new system-wide cancer program
MINNEAPOLIS 01/30/2009-- Oncologist Timothy Sielaff, MD, PhD, FACS, has accepted a new position as president of cancer services at Allina Hospitals & Clinics. The new system-wide program will adopt Abbott Northwestern Hospital's cancer brand name and will be called the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute.
"Dr. Sielaff is a highly respected physician committed to providing exceptional care outcomes and experiences for every patient," said Penny Wheeler, MD, Allina's chief clinical officer. "This appointment is consistent with our commitment that clinical service lines will be physician-led, and it is an important milestone in Allina-wide clinical service line development."
Sielaff has been the medical director of Abbott Northwestern's Virginia Piper Cancer Institute for the past four years. The Virginia Piper Cancer Institute will expand to Allina's other metro hospitals, including Mercy in Coon Rapids, United in St. Paul and Unity in Fridley.
"We have exceptional clinical resources already existing at various parts throughout Allina, and we will work to make them available to all of our patients and providers," said Sielaff. "One of the goals of the integrated cancer clinical service line is to provide the best care for our patients as close to home as possible."
