Preceptor biographies

Jill Strykowski M.S., R.Ph.

Jill Strykowski is Director of Pharmacy at Mercy Hospital & Unity Hospitals. She obtained her B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin and her M.S. in Hospital Pharmacy (Experimental Pharmacotherapy) from the University of Minnesota. Her masters thesis was entitled, "Implementation and Outcome Analysis of an Anticoagulation Clinic." She has lectured on anti-thrombotic topics and most recently published a book chapter on safe use of antithrombotics in the in-patient setting. Prior experience includes pharmaceutical research and drug development and the implementation of a large multi-disciplinary anticoagulation clinic. Most recent interests include Emergency Department Pharmacist practice, Geriatrics Team, Pharmacy Leadership, and Medication Therapy Management.
 
She is a preceptor for Practice Management. She serves as a member to ASHP, MSHP and MCCP and is Clinical Assistant Professor at the University on Minnesota. Ms. Strykowski is a mentor to staff, student externs and residents, and has been nominated several times for Preceptor of the Year.

Mary Foss, Pharm D


Mary Foss is Clinical Pharmacy Manager at Unity Hospital and Pharmacy Residency Program Director for Mercy & Unity Hospitals. She received both her Bachelor of Science – Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Minnesota.

In addition, Mary is currently Adjunct Associate Professor, Pharmacology – Course Director at St. Mary’s University College of Graduate Studies, School of Nurse Anesthesia.



Jeralyn Furst, Pharm D

Jeralyn is a staff pharmacist at Mercy Hospital and a co-coordinater for the residency program at Mercy and Unity Hospitals. She obtained her Pharm.D from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. After graduation, she completed an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In her current position she works in all areas of the hospital, with a primary focus on the cardiology and intensive care units. She is a preceptor for students as well as residents for the cardiology rotation.
 

Nicole Nelson, Pharm D

Nicole Nelson is currently Clinical Pharmacist and Residency coordinator at Unity Hospital. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2005 from the University of Minnesota. Additionally, during 2005-2006, she received specialized training as a Critical Care Pharmacy Resident at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. In the fall of 2007, Nicole passed the BCPS exam and became a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist. 


Shawn Pritchard, Pharm D

Shawn received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from North Dakota State University in May 2005 and went on to complete the Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. He now works as a Clinical Pharmacist at Unity Hospital where he is also pharmacy practice residency co-coordinator. His role as supervisor of residents includes the goals and expectations of the residents, rotation design and scheduling, performance evaluation, interview and match process and study co-investigator.

Shawn is currently a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Minnesota Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Lance L. Swearingen, M.S., R.Ph.

Lance Swearingen is the Pharmacy Manager for Performance Improvement & Operations. Prior to this position Mr. Swearingen obtained his Masters and Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy degree at the University of Wisconsin. He completed the ASHP Pharmacy Administration Specialty Residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. Mr. Swearingen was previously Director of Pharmacy Operations at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee where he was extensively involved in the pharmacy practice residency program and was a significant participant in developing a two-year Masters Residency Program.

Mr. Swearingen is actively involved as a member of the Minnesota Society of Health System Pharmacists (MSHP) and serves as the President of the Central Minnesota Society of Health System Pharmacists.  He is also active with the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and serves on the Educational Programming Committee. His presentations and publications have focused on Medication Safety, Employee Performance and Regulatory Accreditation. Mr. Swearingen is the preceptor for the Medication Safety Rotation.

Letty Tam

Letty is a staff pharmacist at Mercy & Unity Hospitals. She obtained her doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. After completing a residency at Mercy & Unity Hospitals, Ms. Tam continues to actively precept students and residents at her current position.
